Sunflower Series Review- Sunil Grover strange murder mystery entertaining
Sunflower – ZEE5 show follows the members of a suburban residential society.
When Raj Kapoor is murdered, Chaos ensues and the police begin their investigation by questioning all the residents.
Sales manager Sonu Singh as Sunil Grover is the obvious suspect with evidence against him,
but he isn’t the only one whose motives are there.
Direct by Vikas Bahl & Rahul Sengputa, it is a dark comedy,
which is nearing release like Saif Ali Khan’s Kaalakandi & Ayushmann Khurrana’s Andhadhun,
but has a lot of characters and subplots.
While the murder investigation keeps you hook with its suspense and humorous moments,
the subplot includes social commentary that comes at a personal expense to season one.
The show begins with the murder of Raj Kapoor, it takes some time to introduce the characters,
so that the audience can place their bets.
While Raj Kapoor’s neighbour, Ahuja is the prime suspect for the audience,
we are also introduce to Sonu Singh, who discovers the right level of instability for a murderer.
Writers took special care to co relate the 2 suspects, so while you’ll hate one in the end,
the other just seems like a victim of circumstance.
However, the screenplay often deviates from the main storyline into subplot,
which affects the otherwise entertaining plot of the show.
While the murder investigation is at the fore, the other members of the society face their own set of dramas.
The building committee that meets every morning at the Society Gym to interview people seeking to acquire an apartment.
Day by day they reject people,
because they are either divorced or Muslim or transgender or single or have creative work.
Meanwhile, one of his ideal tenants is a killer who is roaming free.
If these subplots weren’t enough, we are also introduce to a girl from Chandigarh,
who fled to Mumbai to become a singer,
who seems to stand apart from the whole plot and is eventually forced to lead the show Season two.
Vikas Bahl and Rahul Sengupta have made a special effort in the show with the direction.
Several scenes that dictate the darker tone of the show such as in Episode 1,
two constables can b seen drinking tea next to a dead body while discussing the ghosts in their hometown.
