Punjab election results, Congress wins 7 of 8 Municipal Corporations
Punjab – Officials said the ruling Congress won 7 out of 8 municipal corporations in the civic elections in Punjab,
the results of which announce on 17th February.
In Kapurthala, Pathankot, Abohar, Hoshiarpur, Batala & Bathinda Congress won.
Results for the 7th corporation expect later in the day.
The counting of votes for another corporation will held on 18th February.
The results of the elections in the backdrop of the farmers’ agitation against,
the BJP led government at the Center have come as an edge for the Congress,
which is also set to win the assembly elections early next year.
The Shiromani Akali Dal, Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party fail to make their mark in the corporations elections.
Chief of Punjab Congress Mr. Sunil Jakhar said that people refuse the negative politics of parties as BJP, AAP & SAD.
We contest the development agenda. This victory will inspire our workers to work hard Mr. Jakhar said.
More than a hundred municipalities across the state vote on February 14,
with 71.39 % of voters voting in some places amid clashes.
In addition 9222 candidates for the elections in 2302 wards of eight MCs & 109 Municipal Councils in the state.
The main contest is between the ruling Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and SAD.
Candidates 2832 self-sufficient, 2037 from the ruling Congress & 1569 from the Shiromani Akali Dal.
BJP, AAP and BSP field 1003, 1606 & 160 candidates respectively.
